ACTS: Life in the Spirit
Six sermons focus on passages of scripture within the Book of Acts. The sermons coincided with small group discussions of this book about ways the followers of Christ at that time affect our lives today.
Each sermon focuses on a different section of Acts that provides us with some important messages. First, the Holy Spirit is necessary equipment for all Christians for spreading the Good News and changing the world. Second, communities within the early church were very much like our small groups. Such groups are places where we can strengthen the muscles we need for communicating God’s love to others.
Third, courage—the willingness to lay down our life for a greater cause—is the important ingredient for living the life of a Christian. Fourth, God has a way of getting our attention even when we aren’t seeking him; and when he gets our attention, we need to ask him the right questions.
Fifth, laws are powerless to transform our lives. We create our own list of rules that can actually keep us from God. We need to realize that Christ can do for us what laws cannot. And sixth, humans will fail us, but God never will. While God cannot always provide us with answers to all our questions, he will give us a new perspective if we allow him to work in us.
