I was the one member of the team that had never been on a mission’s trip before. I’ve never been outside of the continental US before this, so I got to experience many new things. When the opportunity to go was presented, obviously there were a few logistical things to iron out, but I really wanted to go. You see, I’ve always wanted to go on some kind of mission’s trip, but always found some really practical reasons not to. Maybe it was because I wanted to use my limited set of skills and gifts to make a kingdom difference and other trips didn’t seem to accomplish this desire. This worship team trip allowed me to share two of my passions; music and audio-video systems.
This trip was awesome. The hospitality and love shown to us by the Hungarian people was deep. They wanted us to be there. They were eager to learn how we played our instruments, played together as a band and how to lead people in worship. God used us to formally share this information to them in formal workshops and sessions, but mostly informally over dinners and conversations that allowed the team and our hosts to become friends very quickly.
I personally got to share my technical skills with Norbi Kiss in the Budakalasz church. I was able to work on their sound system to make it work and sound better. Norbi was pleased with the improvements to their system and his excitement and thankfulness was heartwarming. I have been doing live sound and video systems for over 15 years. I feel sometimes like I have seen and done everything that can be done with audio. It was easy for me to see during this trip that God has been preparing me through my professional experiences for this moment when I could help Norbi and his church. God used me to make a kingdom difference here. I believe allowing God to use you to help others is one of the most fulfilling things you can do. There is more work I can do in Hungary. I don’t know what God will have in store for me next, but this trip opened my eyes to some wonderful people who love God and just want to serve Him.
Thanks to Alan, Valerie, Chris, Sakari and Samuel. You all are incredible people. I am proud to call you all friends. This trip created memories I will never forget. The concerts rocked! We laughed a lot. We didn’t sleep much. We ate really well. We all survived Valerie’s driving. Most importantly we were willing to take some time out from our normal lives to focus on others for 10 days. It was an honor and a privilege.
