On November 10 Mark Johnson and Alan MacDonald set out for the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola in response to a request from Warden Burl Cain for help to get the broadcast signal of the inmate run radio station to death row.  They picked up former FCC member Bill Hineman in Nashville and spent two days working at the prison.  Here’s a brief account from Mark.

The mission to Angola was a huge success.  On Wednesday evening we completed the work of installing the system at Death Row.

It included installing the external high gain antenna on the roof to receive KLSP and running cable from the roof to the equipment room.
This was connected to a broadcast quality FM receiver.  The receiver in turn fed the audio to the new Death Row FM transmitter on 102.3 FM.

Due to the high security construction of the facility running cables brought a unique challenge.  In addition, the amount of concrete and steel made simple rebroadcasting with and FM transmit antenna impossible.  Thanks to having Bill Hineman along we were able to come up with a "terrific" solution that gave us complete coverage of each cell of the facility.  Approximately 90 men on death row now have access to the encouraging gospel as broadcast by other inmates at the facility.
