Study Buddies Tutoring Program
Study Buddies is an after-school tutoring program for homeless and “at-risk” children and teens in Fairfax City. Study Buddies presents a unique opportunity to build relationships with children from various religious backgrounds. Serving as a mentor impacts these children in incredible ways for success in this life as well as for eternity.
The Study Buddy program meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM at Christ Lutheran Church 3810 Meredith Drive, Fairfax, VA 22030.
The following are three key volunteer needs. If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information, please contact Carmela Corey at carmycorey@gmail.com.

Volunteer Opportunities
Serving as a snack provider
Volunteers are needed to shop for already prepared snacks or prepare snacks at home for children attending Study Buddies. Appropriate snacks include: prepackaged snacks (cookies, chips, juice boxes), baked goods, fresh fruit, or milk. Snacks can be dropped off on Tuesday or Thursday at Christ Lutheran or prepackaged snacks can be dropped off at Fairfax Community any time. Consider helping these kids get the nourishment they need for these tutoring sessions.
Serving as a Tutor
Volunteers are needed to pursue supportive relationships with children and teens facing difficult situations, while providing free tutoring services in a safe environment. If you desire to help underprivileged children succeed in school and build healthy mentor relationships, this is a great way to invest in these children. Tutors would need to commit to either Tuesdays or Thursdays from 4:30 - 6:30 PM.
Serving as a Van Driver
Van Drivers are needed to serve these children and teens by safely transporting them to and from tutoring services from local shelter housing in the Fairfax area. Drivers are accompanied by another adult to help watch children during the trip and are needed on either Tuesdays or Thursdays between 4:30 and 6:30 PM. We encourage you to visit the ministry of Study Buddies to see if you want to get involved.
Serving as a Van Driver Assistants
Assistants help the drivers and make sure the children are all safe and well-behaved while the driver is driving! They need assistants on either Tuesdays or Thursdays between 4:30 and 6:30 PM.
