Trading Vices for Virtues

Most every vice tastes sweet, but sooner or later ends in a bitterness. Virtues, however, are bitter at first but end in the sweetest of honeys. Reflect on the vices and virtues God is directing you to in this season.

Which vices do you sense God is asking you to lay down? Which virtues do you sense God is asking you to pick up?

Praying with the Eyes of your Heart

Visio Divina, or “divine seeing,” is an ancient practice of praying with the eyes of your heart. Focus on the painting looking for details then take a snapshot of the image in your mind, closing your eyes and asking God to show you something just for you. Gaze upon the image again and rest in God’s presence.

A Calling to Fast

This exercise is designed to settle you into understanding what might be most beneficial to you this Lent, physically, emotionally and spiritually. How might God be calling you to fast from something meaningful in this season?

Have I become overly dependent on a particular sustenance, substance, or practice lately?

Which appetites have a unique grip on my body or soul these days?

What would be a genuinely challenging (but not burdensome) fast?

What would be truly freeing to leave behind?

What do I sense God calling me to?
