Books of the Bible – Joshua
May 28 from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm EDT
An event every week that begins at 7:30 pm on Thursday, repeating until June 25, 2020
You and I are promise-breakers. It’s true. We make promises and don’t always keep them. Why? Because implicit in all of our promises is this little asterisk that says, “to the best of my ability.” And frankly, our ability to control circumstances is pretty limited. We cannot control health crises, weather, traffic, politics, or car engines. Sometimes we can’t even control our tempers and tongues. So, to the best of our ability, we may be promise-keepers, but that leaves a pretty wide margin for error.
Guess what? There’s no asterisk next to God’s name. He functions at every moment and in every place to the best of His ability, which is perfectly. He’s sovereign, which means that He’s completely in control and able to bring about the outcomes He chooses.
In the book of Joshua, we see God leading His people to enter, claim, and settle the land that He promised them. It’s not easy. There are obstacles, both within and outside the Israelite nation. But the great news we learn from studying this book is that God sovereignly keeps every promise He’s ever made. And it’s not just good news for the ancient Israelites; it’s good news for us today.
