A 40-Day Lenten
Reader for Fairfax
As Easter draws closer, we want to provide a Lenten reader that helps us prepare our hearts for the remembrance and celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Each week leading up to our Easter services, our Lenten Devotional will move through the book of Luke.
As believers, Easter is the highest holy day we celebrate as we remember Jesus’ resurrection. Ash Wednesday marks the start of preparing our hearts and minds for the season of Lent, a reflective time that points to the three-year ministry of Jesus.
Jesus called a small group of people, his disciples, to follow him, and equipped them to share the good news of the Kingdom of God with others. He taught about the Kingdom of God with the hope that it would transform their lives. Over 2,000 years later, he hopes this same thing for us too.
One way for us to accomplish this is to intentionally sit with scripture and listen. Together we will be reading the Gospel of Luke Chapters 9-24. These simple questions help us to see the character of God and to be encouraged to take the next step of faith. We will be paying close attention to the words Jesus spoke while on earth, often referred to as the Red Letters. If you are in a neighborhood group, you will be inspired to share your insights with your group each week.
We encourage you to take this journey with us in the hope that this discipline over the next 40 days will move us as a church into a deeper relationship with the one who loves us unconditionally.
