Child Dedication

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commands that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children."

Deuteronomy 6:5-7

The birth of a child is an event unlike any other in your life, and we know that you want to do your best to raise your child in a way that pleases God and instills a life-long faith into this precious gift that you’ve been given. Child Dedication is an opportunity for you to stand with other families in the church and commit to doing just that. It is also an opportunity for the church to affirm that we stand with you in your parenting journey, with all its ups and downs, for the long haul.

Child Dedication is a special time for families to gather and celebrate and we do not want any family members to miss out on this memorable occasion. The dedication ceremony will be similar at all services.

What’s the difference between dedication and baptism?

Baptism celebrates the outward declaration of an inward decision any individual has made to say to Jesus and His redemptive and restorative work in our lives. Child Dedication celebrates the anticipatory faith of parents for their child to one day say yes to Jesus, and their commitment to shepherd them toward that decision in the coming years.

Our Beliefs on Baptism
A Note from Fairfax Kids

Congratulations! What an exciting and sometimes overwhelming season in your life as you begin this journey called parenting. We believe that you have a unique role as the primary influencer in your child’s life, and while that can be a big responsibility, it is also rich with opportunity. We also believe that when a child’s home and their church are on the same page we can have a greater impact than just one of those influences alone which is why the heart of Fairfax Kids is to partner with you to have the greatest impact on your child’s life. We’d like to personally invite you to come to check out our program and say hello to our staff. We’re happy to answer any questions you have, and we can’t wait to meet you and your child.

Hope to see you soon!

Child Dedication Process

Register for the event and invite your extended family to witness your child’s dedication and share in this special memory.

Check in at Fairfax Kids

The dedication portion will take place at the end of the service, so check your children into their Fairfax Kids' classrooms like normal.

Retrieve Children from Fairfax Kids

After the message, there will be response time for people to participate in communion, candle lighting, and prayer. Pick your kids up from Fairfax Kids during this time. The Fairfax Kids' staff and volunteers will be expecting you at this time.

Dedicate Your Child

Once you retrieve your children, please remain in the back of the sanctuary until Rod invites your family to stand in front of the stage. To allow for space, we ask that only parents and their children participate at this point. If you have children that are not being dedicated, they can come with you. Extended family is encouraged to participate in the post-ceremony activities.

Family Pictures

You will have the opportunity to take pictures with the pastor and your extended family.

Dedication Certificate

You will receive a certificate in your email to commemorate this special day. We aim to provide certificates two weeks after the event.
